Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

A Medical–Surgical Nurse provides comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to adult patients with acute and chronic medical or surgical conditions. The role involves patient assessment, clinical monitoring, medication administration, post-operative care, care coordination, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes in accordance with Australian healthcare standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing clinical monitoring

  • Deliver pre-operative and post-operative nursing care

  • Administer medications safely in line with clinical guidelines

  • Monitor vital signs and identify early signs of deterioration

  • Manage wounds, drains, catheters, and intravenous therapies

  • Implement infection prevention and control practices

  • Develop and evaluate individualized nursing care plans

  • Support patient mobility, hygiene, and comfort

  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment and recovery

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reporting

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams

  • Respond effectively to emergencies and escalating care needs

  • Participate in discharge planning and continuity of care

  • Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives



Requirements


  • Current AHPRA registration

  • Demonstrated experience in a medical–surgical setting

  • Knowledge of Australian healthcare standards

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Commitment to patient safety and ethical practice
