A Medical–Surgical Nurse provides comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to adult patients with acute and chronic medical or surgical conditions. The role involves patient assessment, clinical monitoring, medication administration, post-operative care, care coordination, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes in accordance with Australian healthcare standards.
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing clinical monitoring
Deliver pre-operative and post-operative nursing care
Administer medications safely in line with clinical guidelines
Monitor vital signs and identify early signs of deterioration
Manage wounds, drains, catheters, and intravenous therapies
Implement infection prevention and control practices
Develop and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
Support patient mobility, hygiene, and comfort
Educate patients and families regarding treatment and recovery
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reporting
Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
Respond effectively to emergencies and escalating care needs
Participate in discharge planning and continuity of care
Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Current AHPRA registration
Demonstrated experience in a medical–surgical setting
Knowledge of Australian healthcare standards
Strong communication and teamwork skills
